Mystery of encoding profile xml for Adobe Flash CS3 Video Encoder

Hi all,

I don't know if everyone is aware, but in the new CS3 suite you can spit out fairly good quality .flvs directly from After Effects, rather than outputting an intermediate Quicktime file and using Sorenson to compress the Quicktime into an flv. We have a project where we're converting 70 some odd hours of greenscreen footage into alpha-channeled flvs, so I'm very excited by the prospect of cutting our postproduction time in half.

But of course, there's a problem. The encoder presets don't cover what we need, and the customization options, aren't as customizable as I would have hoped. I've been doing some research and found that the presets are actually xml files that can be edited, so the encoder may be a lot more powerful than it seems to be. Documentation is very, very scant. The only thing I've found is this little tidbit http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/qu...oder/#section4

I haven't found anything that breaks down all the parameters you can change. It has to exist somewhere, but it's nowhere I can find in the Adobe documentation. Does anyone know anything about this, and can point me in the right direction. I'm trying to find out specifically if the encoder is capable of doing vbr encoding, and/or if you can compress the alpha channel like you can in squeeze.

Thanks.

Agreed, documentation on XML profiles is limited but the Flash video encoder does not support either Alpha channels or VBR encoding methods.

p.s. your link to Adobe is garbled - try using http://tinyurl.com
