I compressed a 720P 59.94 file to two sizes for comparison. 960X540 and 1024X576, both at 29.97 fps. Used compressor with Flip4Mac (new beta version). Played full-screen on a windows PC with display set to 1024X768. The 960x540 version looks better in every way. Less jaggy edges, smoother looking. The only difference was the output size. Is there something magical about the output sizes included in the encoder presets? 960X540 was one of the preset choices, whereas the 1024x576 was just my own experiment. Some of our slower computers don't handle full 1280x720 very well, but the 960x540 seems to be within reach. Any insights on this? thx.
Absolutely guaranteed you will make better WMV encodes with Windows Media Encoder or sorenson Squeeze on the PC. Just seems to handle scaling better...much better. But as you found out....if Flip4Mac doesn't have to scale up much it can get passable results.
