H.264 Codec Messes up the White Balance
on Mar 30, 2007 at 2:14:30 pm

Hi Guys,

I've been experiementing with the AVC/H.264 codec over the last few days and I've noticed that it completely washes out my video. I'm trying to take full HD 1080p footage and reduce it to web video 320x240. I'm using the Adobe Media Encoder in Premiere Pro 2.0. I've also tried using the Render Queue in After Effects 7 and I've got the same results. Is this the problem inherent with the AVC codec when shrinking the video to such small sizes?

When we use the AVC codec in Sonic Cinevision (the encoder for Scenarist to make HD DVD and Blu-ray discs) the video turns about beautifully! Should I maybe be using a different encoder or is this a problem inherent in the codec?

You can see what I'm talking about in this video I uploaded to YouTube using the H.264 (I prefer the name AVC...easier to write) codec:

The colours are completely washes out, in comparison to the full res video -> http://www.digitalleisure2.com/Trailers/DLHDwide.wmv

Thanks,
