Authoring DVD... should I use Bottom Field First or Progressive?
on Jan 29, 2007 at 12:12:28 pm

Hi All,

I'm using Compressor to write Mpeg-2's for a DVD that will be watched on TV.

I was wondering whether I should use Progressive / Bottom Field First / Automatic for the Format Specification?

My input is Uncompressed 10Bit 4:2:2 1920x1080p Quicktime material.

I was told that I should use whatever the kind of TV is (progressive/ interlace). But I don't know what the end users will have...

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards,
Rajnesh

What's the frame rate of your source?

If it's 30p, encode as interlaced.

If it's 24p, encode using Compressor's "24p" mode, which will make it have the proper 3:2 pulldown (top field first, I believe, but it doesn't really matter).
