Mpeg2 to flash using VP6 in Squeeze
on Feb 10, 2006 at 6:25:18 pm

We recently purchased the on2 pluggin for squeeze 4.3 and we aren't having much luck. For a 12 minute clip it took over 5 1/2 hours to turn the program into flash at 460x360 2 pass vbr, total rate rate of 700. Using almost the same settings on squeeze to make a QT file from the same Mpeg 2 it only takes 30min. As anyone else had problems with VP6 from on2 in squeeze?

Thanks

VP6 is slow, very slow. It is also only single processor aware, so the speeds you are experiencing are normal. Of note, I have encoded some content with VP6, and while the quality was very good, it took 60x on a 2.6GHz Dual (not that it mattered) Opteron (HD Source).

Thanks for getting back to me Charles. I have been doing some testing with on2's Flix Pro Demo and that program has been a little bit faster. However I am not completely satisfied with the quality. Have you had any experience with this program?

Thanks again,

Scott
