latest web compression settings

Hi all,

Once upon a time I was pretty involved in producing "progessive download" sports videos for web delivery to coaches for evaulation purposes. Its been a year and a half since I used Sorenson and now they've improved it vastly to its newest version of 4.2.

Im starting to do some work again in this field and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on the industry standard data rates nowadays using the newest sorenson for compression of 5-7 minute videos at both a 320 x 240 frame size and 480 x 360 frame size, medium amount of motion for flash and QT.

I feel safe saying most of my target audience will be using cable, dsl and T1 but really not sure what data rates they can support nowadays.

Sports is challenging content. But the codecs are somewhat better. If you can use the latest codecs for Flash (VP6) and QuickTime (H.264), 500 Kbps would be a good starting point.

Thank you. Do you recommend 500 kbps for both frame sizes? What if I wanted to stay with the spark pro codec?
