Are there any good links out there for data on how well cable, dsl and T1 are supporting higher data rates for progressive downloads? My company has a number of short movies in Flash flv at about 220k. I'd like to boost them to at least 260k to improve quality--but need some data to back up the recommnedation so that the IT people are happy.
DSL speeds can vary by type of service and distance from "hub." Cable speeds can also vary by load on the service. Often websites offer two broadband speeds of 300kbps and 500kbps as reasonable choices.
We generally look at the slow DSL speed (384Kb) as the lowest common denominator. Adjusting for
innefficiency in the DSL, we use 300Kb for 320x240 material (with a higher rate for larger material).
We used to care about dial-up people, but now we ignore them. :-)
