best format for internet and enhanced cd...
on Jul 30, 2005 at 9:08:47 pm

hello, i recently completed a music video for an independent music label, they have plans to post it on a website as well as include it as a cd enhancement, for an upcoming release. my experience with a previous video being posted online, was that the quality was far from ideal.
for my own research, i was wondering if anyone knew what would be the best way to maintain as much video quality for these viewing circumstances? is it just a matter of using a certain codec? or does it consist of using an entire different format (not quicktime?) entirely.
i don't have any experience in this, preparing video for these presentations, so any advice would be great, even better if it doesn't involve anything that would be expensive (wishful thinking?).
i hope all is well with everyone, i look forward to any input,

thanks,
ignacio

For an enhanced CD, I'd do square pixel MPEG-1 - that'll play in anything without any software install.

As for making good web video, there's a LOT to it - picking a format is a pretty minor part of the process.

I wrote a book on this very topic, linked below in my .sig...
