We're finishing up a series of shows that are going to DVD. There are 8 half-hour programs that will be distributed over 4 DVDs. I'm looking for a better compression than Compressor or DSP 3 can offer and found a company in town that uses a Targa Hardware/Software system for compression. They claim that it makes nice pictures but I've never heard of the system so I was just looking for some feedback on its quality. Has anyone worked with this system? Does it work well?
Whether or not you want to explore this route, there are some software-based encoders out there, that, when paired with a fast machine and fast storage system, offer very near real-time encoding these days, at the same high quality that you can expect from a hardware-based solution. Of course, this only refers to SD encoding right now.
