Choice A or Choice B
on May 13, 2005 at 4:28:17 pm

I'm an editor, looking to hold review sessions on rough cuts with a producer in another state (no, not mentally). Heard of someone doing Choice B here - sounds complex, yet interesting. What are all your thoughts?

What's more efficient:
A.) Compressing video and sending it over something like YouSendIt.com
B.) Setting up a webcam pointed at the TV monitor. (Or, rigging the edit system's output to replace the webcam's signal.)

Looking for efficiency of time here, not quality. These are just rough cuts. Option B might be cool because I could talk to him/her during the screening process (Producer says "Hey, go back to that interview for a second"...)

I've heard of people getting GREAT success out of using iChat AV using FireWire input that's the FireWire preview output of a NLE.

Better yet, you have two computers on your end, each of which is conferencing you, the other the NLE.

Need to be running Mac OS X 10.4 everywhere for that to work, of course.
