playstation portable Mpeg4's from FCP export or Procoder? Playstation Portable Mpeg4's from procoder or FCP?

So the new toy PSP plays mpeg4's. I tried exporting my project as an mpeg 4 but it does not play on my psp. Has anyone tried this yet and or know a solution for me? I would liek to be able to take multiple edits with me to NAB to show off without taking a laptop or a dvd player with multiple dvd's. The mpeg4's that come with the PSP and the ones you can download look amazing for quality.

I also posted this on the Final Cut Pro Forum

Thanks

Ryan

Have you tried Compression Master and all of its supported MPEG-4 profiles? I don't know much about what kind of files the PSP accepts, but it could be worth a shot. I know that the ffmpegX author builtin a couple of PSP presets a few versions ago, so you should definitely try that as well.

It seems as though everything to try to encode ends up playing super fast. It is very weird. The audio plays fine but my video plays at about 4 times normal speed

Sadly Sony have decided to use a 'proprietary' version of H.264 (it's not proprietary, but it might well as be). It would appear that the only way to get this onto the PSP is to use the 'Connect' software (Windows only!) http://psp.connect.com/. There are some Windows only software 'hacks' as well - probably best avoided.

So, use Compressor to do all the pre-processing - crop, scale, frame rate and colour correction and simply use Connect to compress and upload.

You'll also find that you have to follow a rather silly naming convention - M4VXXXXX.MP4, and I've been told video has a data rate limit of 1.5mb/s.

Sony don't really want you to put YOUR movies on the PSP, only Sony's

you can export a video from fcp to mpeg4 and put it in your movie folder in your psp....you do have to use there wierd naming scheme but I dont think you need any programs beside fcp..I am working on it now and im real close..the problem is that youll only end up with a 10 minute file on a 256 card

I just found a path for encoding your edits from FCP to play on your PSP's. First you export from FCP as a MPEG4 file. In the advanced tab in the options for exporting a MPEG4 you need to change the top setting to none. There is a whole paragraph in this window saying that some machines wont be able to play the mpeg4 if that setting is on....So I turned it off and it works. Then yo uneed to use a free piece of software called PSP WARE. Then all you need to do is grag your MPEG4 into the program and it synchs it up to your PSP. I think it does extra encoding when it transferes it to the PSP because my 5 minute Mpeg4 file went from 111mb to 25 mb. Which is good because now I can fit mor but is bad becasue there is more compression. I am trying to tweek setting for better quality. If anyone needs a sample MPEG4 TO SEE MY COMPRESSION GIVE ME A YELL.
