hi iam currently working on a project, to make a 5 second animation of an explotion in a second story window, the problem iam having is with the shatter effect, over 2 second the window shatters & glass falls to the road but iam having problems trying to let the glass stay on the road as it always wants to fall out of frame over the 5 seconds of the clip, would be gratefull for some advice thank you.

Most special effect shots aren't on screen for such a long time. Perhaps you could cut to a different shot a lot earlier. Maybe even to a shot that shows glass hitting the ground. This would be done by you tossing broken glass (fake or real) onto the ground in front of the camera.

If it absolutely must be on the screen for that long, you could tyr to use the other force (since Shatter gives you two forces to work with) to bounce the pieces a bit. Getting them to bounce accurately and then stick will be pretty impossible, but it can at least help.

I'd recommend NOT using a green screen. Keying glass on a green screen is devilishly tough, and turns fearless chroma key veterans into quivering blobs of jelly. Go find yourself a a sidewalk someplace and shoot it there. Lots easier in the long run.

You can also use the shatter filter with a separate CC Particle World layer. Set the CC Particle world's "Floor" field to ice and adjust to your liking. Just precompose the area you want to shatter, apply the shatter effects (glass texture) and keyframe the CC Particle World to increase the opacity and birth rate. after a second or so, keyframe the birth rate back to zero. Apply the colour of whatever you shattering for best effect.

p.s. keyframe in camera blur in an adjustment layer once the object shatters to the ground.
