Text Vertical Animation based on audio
on Jul 16, 2020 at 8:50:59 am

Hi creative people.

How do I animate a text to repeat vertically and it will repeat based on the audio file. I managed to animate the text vertically but it only repeats going downwards. is there a way to make it go upwards.

How have you done the animation so far ?
What effects, expressions,… have you used to to it where you are now ?

The we can tell you what to tweak or change.

Hi there.

The text layer has a slider control with the following expression:
repeater = effect("Repeater")("Slider").value;
verticalText = value + "\n";
verticalText.repeat(repeater);

so now it only manually adjusted with the slider control going vertically downwards, but I would like it to be able to repeat upwards and according to audio file. Like using audio spectrum but the wave is the text. Sample below :

I'd move the anchorPoint down with an expression.

repeater = effect("Repeater")("Slider").value;
repeater = Math.floor(repeater) - 1;

if (text.sourceText.style.autoLeading) {
leading = text.sourceText.style.fontSize*1.2;
} else {
leading = text.sourceText.style.leading;
}

value + [0, leading*repeater];

You'd want to make sure that in the Paragraph settings there's no extra space before/after the paragraphs, which would be added to the leading and throw off the calculation.

Otherwise/alternatively calculate the sourceRect of the text and use that:

sr=sourceRectAtTime();
value + [0, sr.height];

this approach is a tiny bit off: a 1 line text should still have it's anchorPoint at [0,0], but here it will be off by the height of 1 line of text. You can adjust manually by scrubbing the value if you wish, or just reposition the layer a bit, could be no big deal.
