Rotate C4D object in 3D space in After Effects
on Apr 23, 2020 at 11:47:34 am

I've been using Element 3D a lot for rotating objects tracked with footage inside AE and it works really well, but I wanted to start using Cinema 4D more and wondered if this is possible with Cineware?

I know you can pan around the object and import a cameras, but I wanted to animate the actual C4D object. Is this possible?

I could also import the C4D file into Element 3D and do it that way, but it feels a bit convoluted

Thanks

You can only animate the C4D object in Cinema 4D I’m afraid. And you can bounce back into C4D to update the movement and it will sync with AE.

Thanks for confirming.

Is there a way of importing the movement of a 3D null object in AE (rotation, position) into C4D? And have the C4D objects simulate that?

Not that I can see. Also, AE's and C4D's coordinate system is similar but not identical.

Y is reversed for one thing. You might be stuck reproducing the individual keyframes. It's relatively simple to get scene data. including keyframes out of C4D (using the Extract button in Cineware), but doesn't seem like you can go the other way.

I'm not a huge fan of C4D these days, I find Lite too restricted, the rendering is slow. If you have Element, I find that a much easier way to use 3D objects.

Yes I found Element much better too, I just couldn't believe C4D didn't do it. I shall stick to importing it via E3D .

Thanks for your help
