I've got a still logo where the main image is a wind flapped flag. I've got a vector file that is the same flag but flat, no wind blowing on this one. I'm wanting to animate it as a loop so that the flag flaps in the wind. The hard part is that at some point in the loop the ripple of the flag needs to match exactly (or EXTREMELY close) the logo. Basically I need to reverse engineer the logo to make an animated logo out of it, but I've tried and the problem is there's so many variables that all effect each other it's a real headache. Is there an easier way to do this?
I think if you use a Displacement Map, you will get closest. If you precomp the displacement texture, you can use Fractal Noise to get relatively random movement with your flag, then at the point needed, you can fade up a new layer in the precomp with displacement set to match your static flag (a grayscale version of the logo should probably do it).
