Adding Image to Composition Layer - Beginner

Hello everyone, I'm a (very fresh) beginner in need of assistance. I have a template that I'm using for practice (the template being a short 'logo reveal' type animation). The directions ask me to 'Import your logo into LOGO -composition'. The importing an image bit makes perfect sense to me, but I'm unsure of what it means by importing the image to logo -composition. How is this done? I've found a Logo composition, but when I bring in my logo in PNG, it appears as it's own layer down at the bottom, I can't tell if it's strictly affecting the logo composition.

I may be misunderstanding the simplest of directions, but please bear in mind this is my first experience with After Effects. I greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide, hopefully my painfully obvious 'beginner-ness' doesn't frustrate anyone!

Not frustrating at all -- but templates can be pretty complex, and they're definitely not the best way to learn Ae.

This quick tutorial might help you for your specific question:

And here's a good, general "getting started" resource:
