Pretty much what the subject says, is prores 4444 good enough for color correction or must I use uncompressed QTs?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, ProRes 4444 is widely accepted as sufficient for color grading. (And a lot of people just use ProRes 422.)

If you're doing the work in After Effects, make sure to work in either 16bpc or 32bpc to take advantage of the extra bit depth that ProRes 4444 allows.

Walter. another question related to this, if I output an .mp4 file is that compatible with Linux? If not what format should I render in order to ensure compatibility with it?

Thanks in advance.
D.

The MP4 container with the H.264 codec is pretty universal. Any modern system can play it.

(I suppose some Linux distributions may require an additional download, but it's likely that a "normal" desktop Linux installation can play it.)
