Text stroke in 3D isn't there

Maybe I've never done this before, but I tracked a layer and added a camera, then added text into a comp.
I can't get a stroke around it. I've tried using the Character pallet and adding a stroke through Layer Styles. It's not there, but as soon as I turn off 3D on the layer, it's there.
Same goes for Drop Shadow.
What's the workaround?

EDIT
I went to a project last year and I added drop shadow and stroke with no problem. Same exact setup.
This is driving me crazy.

Turns out this was the issue (via adobe forums)
"Sounds like you've enabled the Cinema4D rendering engine. Switch back to Classic 3D in your composition settings, and see if that fixes it."
