mp4 renders in small dimensions

Hi,

I'm attempting to render perfectly sharp .mov footage into tiny 250 px dimensions (more or less). It appears sharp in the After Effect window, but renders out so soft it looks out of focus.

Can anyone explain why this happens, or maybe point me to a tutorial on basic dimension reduction in AE?

Thank you!

Edit: I'm using AE CS6.

Hey Lee, my plain guess is that once rendered, you preview video in your viewer at a higher/stretched resolution. As for this reason, it looks less sharp.

If thats not the case, then I suggest to sharing a sample clip.

Lee - could you make a screenshot of your render profile's, Render Settings module with settings revealed?

CS6 was long back in the days - I assume Adobe Media Encoder was not yet bundled together with AE?

Hi Tomas,

CS6 does appear to have Media Encoder, but I haven't managed to launch it yet.

I've been using Handbrake in the meantime and getting improved results.

These are my Render Settings screenshots:

Lee - the only thing within AE I can think of is changing Quicktime to other format - as .mov with H.264 tend to cause problems as an obsolete codec of choice.

Looking at CS6 profiles - choose H.264 and render it to .mp4. Alternatively, you can do it lossless and then encode with Handbrake.

On a different note - sending it to AME and rendering as H.264 to .mp4 could be other way around.

Let us know how it turns out to be - but I have a feeling its due to Quicktime :)

That's great Tomas, I'll try that. Quicktime seems to present itself as the default. Perhaps it was back in the days of CS6.

Thank you for taking the time.

Lee
