Basically dispacement map in AE works on 2d layer and even though we can change horizontal and vertical values yet layer stays 2d. That approach doesnt let us to rotate object to visualize surface. Effects as Shatter for example use some kind of basic 3d forms and shapes along with camera inside yet they do not allow to use complex extrusion, only one axis to whole image.
I'd like to know is there any strandart effect or plugin to make proper 3d extrusion like via height map so flat shape or image could be converted into 3d object and we could observe 3d surface?
or maybe there is a way to extrude according to mask opacity or black and white intensity rather than complete flat 1 axis extrusion?
