How to export an animation with transparency from After Effects CS6
on Apr 5, 2019 at 9:17:31 am

Hello guys, I know that the topic was moved several times, but nothing works for me ;(

So, I have an animation made in AE (character waving) on transparent background. When I'm exporting avi I can check RGB+Alpha but file size is way too big. I don't have QuickTime option neither AE output list nor Media Encoder.

https://helpx.adobe.com/media-encoder/using/add-items-encoding-queue.html#a...
"Interpret items in the encoding queue"
Interpret option is inactive in my case, I don't know why

Trying to export Animated GIF from Media Encoder - it good in term of quality but again - it renders on a black background, when I have it marked in AE to be transaprent, I don't see any option to chnge that in AME.

Could you please provide me with an information how to solve this problem?

I don't have CS6 so I have no way of testing this, but are you sure the AME export doesn't have a transparent background? Have you opened it in Photoshop or some other program that actually displays transparency? Many programs either ignore transparency or show the GIF with black or white background behind it, which may make you think there is no transparency.

For users of Adobe CC, Cineform is already in the Media Encoder options, but CS6 users will need to install manually.

https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/gopro-cineform-codec.html

I just checked for a download of the Cineform codec and it doesn't appear to be available any longer. What you can do is install an older version of the GoPro Studio software and that will install the Cineform codec on your machine and that does include alpha channel support. Assuming you have a PC?

If you want to PM me, I can set up a DropBox for the GoPro download as I still have an old copy

Thanks

Jeff

What do you need to do next with the file that you're rendering?
