How can i control a text layer from another composition
on Apr 1, 2019 at 10:37:24 pm

Hi
Im working on some simple text effects for a project and i´ll like to have one of my effects as a preset.
I already did the effect but i was wondering if i can add a controller on the master composition to change the text of all the layer inside of it, something like when you add an slider or color control but for the text.

than you for your time, guys.

Ricardo,

in your masters comp, just create a text layer and add the text. Then, in your other text layers inside other comps, just paste expression to text source:

comp([master]).layer([index]).text.sourceText

Where:
~ [master] is your master's comp name, like 'myComp', in quotes.
~ [index] is text layer's index in the master's comp. Alternatively, you can add its name just like in 'myComp' example. Just use layer's name.

With this setup, you will be able to easily change all texts in other comps, if they contains the same texts.
