Import photos for multiple comps
on Mar 14, 2019 at 9:23:35 am

Hello everybody,

What is the easiest way to import 100 photos into a mosiac photo template with 100 compositions for each photo?
At this moment I import the photos and open the compositions one by one to place a photo into these compositions.

Isn’t there an easier/ faster way to do this?

Thank you

Sander

No, I have got 1 template with 100 compositions. 1 comp for each photo. (VH 7266788).
Maybe is "sub-composition" a better word.

Can I import 100 photo's and place them with only a few actions into these (sub)comps instead of placing them one by one into these comps of this template.

Hey Sander,

thats definitely possible. Few things:

1. Lets say you import 100 images into a folder. Are they all identical in resolution?
2. Are placeholder comps, to fit those 100 images in the template - all identical resolution?
3. In placeholder comps - is it only a single image layer, or are the anything else to be aware of? Like, some safe area/magins, or layers on top of the image.

With these things considered, it could be achieved.

Cheers.

Hello Tomas,

First thanks for your reply.

1. The images/ photo's are all identical in resolution?
2. Are placeholder comps do have the same identical resolution?
3. Every placeholder comp contains only 1 solid background layer.

Are those solids maybe a problem?

Sander,

thanks for your reply. Its not really clear what you mean by first two points - could you try to reply this, maybe with translator?

BECAUSE, if your images/media elements are bigger/smaller than original comp, or should be fitted into particular area, you will also need to readjust them manually.

In addition, are you aware on how to run a script in AE?

Cheers.

Anyways, attached is a script which you could use. There are few things to consider before executing, but it works as expected.

Few notes:
1. Import media files into a separate folder inside the project panel;
2. Select two folders (placeholders and media) in the project panel before running the script;
3. Only placeholder comps should be inside the placeholders folder;
4. Only media items should be inside medias folder;
5. Make sure placeholders folder name is above in the project panel list.
6. At lines 41 & 42 you can adjust how added media layers will be scaled inside the comp - scaled to fit by height or width.

Hello Tomas,

Thank you for your reply and script.
I shall use your script for creating my slideshow.

Thanks

ps. I apologize that something was unclear, but the 100 photo's I want to use, all have the same resolution (1920x1080 pixels). Also all the placeholder comps have got this resolution.

I do not have to scale anything for making a photo fits to his placeholder

Hey Sander,

if all images matches size of compositions, you can comment out scaling lines of the script.
