I've been wondering how to get around this for some time. When I split a layer into two or more clips and need to re-time them separately, the time-remapping acts as though the clips are continuous and doesn't account for their actual duration. I tried pre-comping each clip before adding time remapping, thinking that might reset it (don't know why I thought that, because it clearly doesn't work like that). Is there a way to get around this issue? Is the only solution to export each clip and bring it back in to re-map?
It should be easy. Once you split the clips and everything is right, THEN add Time remapping to each layer.
The first thing to do then is to put Time Remapping keyframes at each clip's new in & out points -- you'll probably need to eliminate the keyframes created at the in & out points Time Remapping also created for the entire, non-split layer.
Then you should be able to proceed, and Time Remapping should behave as expected.
