Converting Excel table w/ numbers into a Composition
on Jan 31, 2019 at 4:49:36 pm

Hey there, I'm stuck with a queue of about 100 Excel Tables that my boss want converted into text and shape layers in After Effects.

For example: A table with three columns, ten rows, and numbers or words in each cell, yanked from Excel, and dropped into AE as shape and text layers.

Is there a script? A technique? A tutorial? Anything that can automate this? My boss doesn't want anybody typing (or copy/pasting) the text in manually, BUT he also wants the data as text layers in AE. Lord Help Me

The good news: such a script exists.

The bad news: I only know that it exists. I don't know where you get it, what it does in detail or how it works. Sorry.

This would be a place to start.

You can convert Excel to CSV and bring in the data that way.

Whether you will actually be saving any time this way depends on whether all the spreadsheets are describing the same properties using the same formatting or not. If they are, you can set up one file that knows what to do with the input data and swap it for the next data source (CSV) for automatic replacement. If the spreadsheets all contain different information formatted differently, you will have to make a separate template for every spreadsheet, which pretty much defeats the purpose of using this method.

Maybe: https://aescripts.com/templater/

Haven't used it, but I would assume Excel would be easy to turn into a Google sheet.
