I have a shot rendered in a 3d program and a Z Depth layer.
Camera lens blur works very well for depth of field but I would like to add other effects to only the blurry parts.
For example I would like to desaturate the darker areas of my Z Depth layer and be able to use the Camera Lens Blurs "blur focal distance slider" so I can do focus pulls for an animated shot.
I figured putting an adjustment layer with some effects (blur, desataturate) below my Z Depth with the TrkMat set to Luma Matte works great but unfortunately I can't/don't know how to adjust the blur focus distance the same way Camera Lens Blur does.
Any help on how I can achieve this would be greatly appreciated.
You can use a copy of the z-depth map as a track matte (set to luminosity) for the adjustment layer where you have your effecst applied. To control where the effect takes place you can use levels or curves adjustment on the track matte layer (the latter is more flexible). If you want to invert the area where the effect takes place select inverted luminosity for the track matte type.
