Alternative Plugin to Rift? Anything Similar?
on Jan 3, 2019 at 3:22:06 pm

Hi There,

I was wondering whether anyone has found a good alternative to the plugin Rift:

I recently did some research, with help from people on reddit (link: https://www.reddit.com/r/AfterEffects/comments/a8u10x/motion_graphics_expla... on ways I could improve my ability to make client changes to timings and one very promising solution was to incorporate the plugin Rift into my workflow.

Unfortunately myself and many others can't get the plugin to work properly with the latest version of AE (or with CC 18) and support for it appears to have stopped in 2013. It looks like it could have been such a great solution for editing keyframes and layers on mass within the timeline.

If anyone has any suggestions they would be vastly appreciated.

Cheers,
Sam

I looked at that Reddit thread and discovered I didn't have time to seek out a reference to Rift. It must be pretty obscure, or else you've mistaken it for a script. I've never heard of it.

Apologies it might be a script: https://aescripts.com/rift/

I meant to post a link to it sorry.

Thanks!

The script claims compatibility with CC. I would install CC15 and give it a try there.

Hello, thanks for your response.

I think I want to stick to using CC 18 or later (I haven't updated yet). I would prefer not to use any plugin that isn't compatible with those versions.

Thanks!

Perhaps not a complete replacement of Rift, but you might want to take a look at the Lazy script:

Thanks Matthew. I did look at Lazy, but for another reason, recently and I think I will be investing in it soon. While it would be great to be able to control the start point of layers with Lazy, it's not quite what I'm looking for. I think what Rift was promising to do was to say, "I want all keyframes, out points and in point beyond this point (where the playhead is) to move forward by x amount" essentially pushing all content after the playhead forward simultaneously. Never mind though, maybe someone will come up with something similar in the future.
