Technique to animate a perfect circle to a straight line on Nov 12, 2018 at 9:48:45 am

This is killing me; Does anyone have a tried and tested working technique for animating a perfect circle (shape or precomp) to a straight line in after effects?
Imagine trying to animate a globe (planet earth) into a straight horizon line.

The circle-to-straight-line transformation is the smaller of the issues. Would need to know how you envision the transformation of what's inside the globe to what's on the ground will look like. You should graph that out as a (projection of a) grid to figure out what type of transformation you need in between. A globe can be mapped in a variety of ways, and so can a plane. A grid representation of how the latitudes and longitudes will look before and after is a critical missing step here.

Polar coordinates is the easy way, but may not be how you want this to look.

Thanks for the response @Kalleheikki. Though Polar coordinates actually works great to turn it into a circle.
It's doesn't seem to have a 0-100 parameter, Polar Coord is either on or off.. :(

I must admit, I am confused. You write of transforming a CIRCLE -- a two dimensional form -- into a straight LINE -- also a two dimensional form.

Then you state you want to transform a GLOBE -- a distinctly three dimensional form -- into a line!

Have you worked out in your mind's eye precisely what you're after, or is this just a blue-sky query?

Ah, classic @Dave LaRonde haha!
Yes you are correct though, that I am mentioning two different forms.
But I was merely stating the globe to horizon visual to help get the idea across.

So in that case, forget about the 3D globe and just merely work with a circle (assuming a 2D shape with 4 bézier points) opening up smoothly into a straight line (2D shape with the same 4 bézier points).
