OK, so I am aware of how to modify text layers using expressions to create custom timecodes and although this is very handy, sometimes I have a need to label individual layers with their properties and adding an additional text layer is not practical.

Any tips on adding an existing effect like timecode, numbers or Basic Text and modifying their source text or creating a new effect that will allow me to modify a text overly/label within a layer?

Thanks in advance for your creative thoughts.

Chris

The first question is, "Why do you need to do this?"

Not entirely sure what you are trying to accomplish here but thisLayer.name in source text expression is what I use for quick way of changing layer text.

Sometimes parse thisComp.name to save even going into comp plus it means export file name references content too.
