how do I apply this hexagon shader effect on top of a base video at higher resolution?

but this would mean each hexagon will have it's own layer, which to fit my need it will be around 3000 layers, and AE can't even display that many layer, let alone the impossible lag to work on...

basically all i need is a shader on top of the base video, kinda like a mosaic but in hexagon shape instead of square.

I would like to see if any one got any suggestion, including using C4D or any additional plugin are ok as well.thanks!

You're not being very clear...

What do you mean by "shader"? Your first link is a footage, if you need something like that applied to a video just use the blending modes.

Is this a better example for what you want? Just with hexagons?



For an actual shader effect, to procedurally control the surfaces and interact with the video, you'll need to either go C4D, draw you shape, place inside a cloner, and use the shader effector to control its many properties. (rotation, size, color, animation etc.) There's a lot to explain here, you'll need to work at it some more before we can break down any problems you'll might have.

If you want to do that inside AE, trapcode's Form plugin is your best bet. It will have almost the same controlling options one would get from C4D.

A shader system would be great, but I too have used Form for exactly this before. The trick is using two instances of Form to create the offset/interlocking hexagonal layout.
