How do I get a jump effect before an animation happens?

Hi, I'm trying to create a "jump" effect before an animation happens and I need some help.
I don't really know what to call this effect, but it's sorta like how we crouch before we jump.

Use of this animation is ubiquitous in this video:




Notice how the shapes go back a little before dashing forward.

Now, I'm well aware that you can achieve this by keyframing it manually, but I'm willing to bet that there is an expression that creates this effect.
I hope someone can help, thanks!

Yep. And Walter here can probably give ya all sorts of ways to do it natively in AE.

Or, you might check out this free version of the Animation Composer script:

There are others but this is pretty straight forward & easy to use.
