Changing color of building in footage.
on Apr 23, 2018 at 8:10:33 am

Hello all,

I've been tasked with changing the color of a building in some footage (see image) to be a light grey with the green window frames and guttering dark grey. This is proving more difficult than I imagined. Ive tried 'change to colour effect' but the results were very rough. Also tried key lighting the green to make a matte and adjusting that way. Again the results looked very rough. The shot is a simple tripod pan.

Any other approaches I'm overlooking?
Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
J.

Hi,
Making a matte for the teal parts will be the only way to change their color without changing the color of the reflections in the window along the way...
If you are struggling to make a matte, you can roto the teal parts on the first frame, and track that still matte image with a corner pin for example.
I haven't understood towards what you want to bring the teal parts?

Bye

Does your camera move?..if not then you can make a matte once and then use the tint..to change the white to another color..or use the Vc color vibrance...but if the camera is moving...you still have to make a matte for it. a luma matte probably. ..or..if you wanted to get a little psychadelic, i could tell you how i made this

I'd do it essentially like Ingi describes: Extract two still images for the two walls of the building, remove perspective and fix the colors in Photoshop. Then track the corners of the building in the video and corner pin the still images onto the walls.

Brilliant, I'll go with the corner pinning option. Good thinking.

Cheers.

Use the CC power pin if you can - the native corner pin is quite soft.
