Progressively bolder letters in a one word layer

I'm trying to recreate this logo, but I don't know how to get the individual letters to get progressively bolder. Any ideas?

The best way is to use a typeface that has several different weighted fonts to it.
Wait, are you wanting to animate this at all?

Yes, if possible. The segment is called "Advance at a Glance" and I wanted to have the "dv" in advance wiggle random letters and settle on "Gl."

The company's font does have weighted fonts, but I was hoping to make this happen in one layer so that I can do the animation.

you can get close by adding a stroke to your text layer, then adding a text animator for stroke width.

in the text animator's settings, goto range selector>advanced and set the 'shape' to 'ramp up. then increase the stroke width property for the animator.

you''ll also need to decrease the scale a bit, so add a scale animator to the same animator (with the scale width property selected, add a scale animator property and it will then work with the range selector that you have already set).

Yup -- you need a good font FAMILY.
There's one for Helvetica that's great -- all the way from thin to black. Even italics.
I bet that example above is Helvetica.

Start off with a font with a "Light" version. Ensure you enable Stroke in the Character Panel. Leave the Stroke value very low - 0.1 is good. Then add a Text Animator Group by selecting Stroke Width from the Text Animator Properties Menu. In the Advanced section, set Shape to Ramp Up and set the Stroke Width to a value of 20 - then adjust the to taste.

You can try duplicating the Text Animator Group to get the enhanced (non-linear) stroke increments that your example shows, for the characters to the right of the text string.
