Problem with Rasterizing 3d .ai Vector layers
on Mar 16, 2018 at 2:49:52 pm

So, I've noticed that when I import .ai files then make them a 3D layer and rasterize them clarity / crispness reduces. can anyone explain why? I've changed renderer from classic 3d to cinema4d and it is noticeably more blurry with the cinema4d renderer.

Any explanation would be greatly appreciated, or a fix.

Thanks.
Simon

Precompose the Illustrator layers (in a 2D comp), make the comp dimensions much bigger, scale up the layer and use continuously rasterize. Now when you use the layer as intended, you'll have to scale the layer DOWN, and your image will stay crisp.

The cinema 4d renderer has a quality slider(inside the options button) that dictates the AA amount.

The default C4d (standalone) renders lines pretty aliased too.

It may be too that the vectors are too small coming in from illustrator. While in theory vectors are infinitely scaleable, it seems that if the paths are too small on the illustrator canvas you can only blow them up so much in AE (even with continuously rasterize turned on). So make sure they are a decent size in AI first.
