Is 32GB RAM enough for 4k?

I've been doing 720p and 1080p work - mostly compositing with motion tracking and the like. Not much animation, text/graphics, etc.

I'm graduating to some 4K work, either ProRes or Redcode at 4.5-6K. I currently have 32GB of RAM. Will that work in most cases, or do is 64GB the new minimum?

You ought to be okay with 32 gigs. But if you've been using AE for a while, you're aware that the application likes RAM. I suspect you'd see the difference first in the duration of your previews.

Editing in Premiere Pro may be a different matter due to the typical codecs of 4K footage. Hope you have really fast storage! You'll need it!
