Move and animate vertices altogether
on Feb 22, 2018 at 4:47:43 pm

Hi,
first post☺, after effects cc 2018

I'm in a situation for which I didn't found anything on internet, where I want to animate a group of vertices from different shapes and layers,

to simulate the resizing of a "windowed" application.
The selected vertices must maintain the same distance one from the other.

Here's the project structure:

Each shape layer (blue) is identical to the one selected, and corresponds to a rectangular path on screen

I am able to select multiple vertices, but only if they're part of the same layer.
Could you please suggest me an approach I could follow to achieve what I've described?
it's okay If I have to change everything, and I don't have specific directions or limitations to follow, all I need is the plain output.

I apologize for the italian screens, but I haven't been able to change my adobe applications' language (and I find that rather stupid, it makes learning from mostly-english documentation extremely difficult and annoying, as I always have to guess translations),
also, I probably should say I'm quite new to ae, I have used it mainly to write expressions and that's it.

Anyway, here's the project file:
12189_demo.aep.zip

Thank you for your help!
Artemis

If you are trying to simulate a window that is opening, you can always precompose your layers and animate the scale on the precomp.

Sorry for the late reply, I didn't notice the mail.
I had already tried to resize the panels, or precomp, but that stretches out everything: borders, ecc.

I'd like to move the vertices, and mantain the shapes' integrity

You want to move the vertices AND maintain the shapes' integrity.
You want to move EVERYTHING in your current comp all at once, and you do NOT want to alter the shapes' positions with each other.

Correct? This is what you want to do?

The answer is a no-brainer -- precompose! Or just nest your current comp in a new comp. All your shapes then behave as a single layer. It couldn't be easier.

If I precompose, unless I'm doing something wrong (and that's quite likely), I come out with this:

I've drawn on the bottom the stretch effect I'm talking about.
Also, I'd like to move only the vertices selected in the green area (see the first image), not everything
