Linear Timecode and After Effects

Hello,

I created an animation in AE and I've been asked to add an LTC to it. I was told to generate one using this site:

http://elteesee.pehrhovey.net/

What I got was a screechy WAV file that I'm meant to import into said project folder (and mute, I assume.) Anything I export with this new track will have the correct audio timecode.

My questions are:

Is all I have to do? And will the LTC wave file work with AE or do I need to import the whole thing in FCP or Premiere?

Thanks,
O

Wow, I haven't heard of anyone requesting longitudinal time code in ages!

Assuming you you got all the specs right -- frame rate, drop frame / non drop frame, starting time code, bit depth and sampling frequency -- yeah, it ought to be fine.

Don't mute it, and don't forget to export an audio track along with the animation.

I gotta admit, it's a weird request.

Won't the screeching wav be an issue? And by "export an audio track" do you mean a separate one from the video?

Thanks Dave!

Well, if you don't have the screeching, you don't have longitudinal time code. These days it's an odd request to be sure.
In QT 7 Pro, I just checked a Quicktime clip exported from Avid and it has a time code track... but it's not anywhere near the size it should be for actual time code data. I don't even remember how to make a time code track in QT!

So I'd just export the animation as a movie containing an audio track. Maybe they can figure it out.

[Dave LaRonde] "These days it's an odd request to be sure."

LTC is still surprisingly common in live events as show control. It's a simple way to lock different playback systems together.
