Problem with smooth edges in After Effects

Hello I put together a corporate video with multiple comps tiled as 3D layers, that then rotate away. I noticed that although the comps are snapped edge to edge, and in some cases even overlapping, they have bizarre edges. Is this a problem with 3D rendering in AE when two planes are at the same z-distance?

I'll attach two pics. The second where they are rotating away show that the edges are in fact smooth (despite aliasing)

I assume these layers move. You'll never notice the aliasing if they do. If you're really worried about it, just enable Motion Blur.

I think you misunderstand the situation and where the problem is I'm concerned about. That first frame has no motion as the videos of the portraits play for many seconds. And in that moment of no motion I am getting the edges you can see in the still. Once they move away from each other, the edges are fine.

I am specifically talking about he characteristics of the first frame where all 9 frames are up and motionless.

You need to actually click the first image to enlarge it to see the problem.

Are you actually worried about those vertical lines? Really?

Vertical lines? Don’t know what you’re referring to.

I’m talking about the organic black peppered dotted areas between the portrait frames that should be razor smooth flush to each other (there should be nothing between the portrait frames).

Yes, the client who pays big $$$ notices everything, right down to a hint of yellow in skin tone, or one stray fly away hair that has to be mocha’d out.

Are you not seeing the organic black peppered areas between the frames?

You can see it in motion right here: https://vimeo.com/253863623

Yes that's weird I tried to recreate it but didn't get the exact same thing - A grid of 9 movs would line up perfectly as 2d layers, or as 3d layers with z set to 0, but as soon as the 3d layers were taken anywhere from 0 the bg would bleed through the cracks... but not those fuzzy edges - does that happen in after effects or only when you render?

Either way you're probably best off bouncing the video or just splitting the footage for wherever they're in the grid (using 2d layers), then only switching to 3d layers when they break apart. Kind of a faff but that's AE

I wonder if it’s a bug in AE 2018?

(I know I had to switch back to AE 2017 to use Mocha Pro combined with the Roto brush on separate layers. With AE 2018, it started to crash, and led to crashing just upon opening the program. A quick search in Adobe forums revealed this to be a widespread problem, and not just with the exact plugins and tools I was using. But for this particular sequence here I was still in AE 2018.)

I’m already trying to sneak this past their eyes, because I have other work to get to. but I’ll try to recreate and do variations of it to see where the problem begins.

This looks like when you have layers in “dissolve” mode of transparency.

[Sharad Patel] "I wonder if it’s a bug in AE 2018? "

Let's eliminate everything else first. Can you post a screenshot of your entire UI, not just the contents of the viewer?
