Effect disappears with resolution change
on Feb 9, 2018 at 2:35:23 am

Hey, bit of a strange one.

I have 4k composition.
I'm viewing at a third resolution.

I have a single letter on a text layer with an adjustment layer above that has Light Burst on it.
I've keyframed the center parameter for the Light burst to move over 8 seconds or so.

If I view or export at a third resolution there's no problem and it acts as it should.
If I view or export at half resolution there adjustment layer disappears at one point for a couple frames.
If I view at full resolution there are multiple drop outs.

I've tried a new composition, and dumping cache. No change.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Why are you using an adjustment layer? Why not just put the effect on thetext layer itself?

Liberal use of adjustment layers is indicative of Photoshop Thinking. AE ain't Photoshop.

Hey, Dave.

You are correct.
Photoshop is my go-to.
I'm in AE out of a rare necessity. ☺

In regards to your suggestion:
Moving the effect to the text layer results in the same issue. ☹

As an aside: why is it wrong to use adjustment layers in this manner in AE? What if I wanted the effect separate for blending mode purposes?

Thanks!

Weird.
Happening no matter what now at the same place every time.

Frames 101-150.

It seems to be related to the key framing of the height of the Light Burst 'center point'.
If I do not keyframe, it plays back and renders out without issue.
If I keyframe in a very small range of 'height' values there's no issue.
As soon as I put in a wide range it will black out on playback though I can actually scrub and see it until my computer catches up and then it displays black.

So weird.

I use adjustment layers if and ONLY if I want an effect(s) to be applied to all the layers in the timeline under the adjustment layer. Otherwise, I apply effects directly to the layers. It's easy to copy-paste effects from layer to layer.

Ah. That makes sense. :)

Resolved.

Seems to be an issue related to the resolution of the project.
I had the comp set to 4k and it seems as though 'Light Burst' has a limit to it.
Once I reduced the length of the 'rays' control everything functioned as normal.
