After years of irritation it finally bugged me enough to ask. Is there a way to update or customize the default video presets (in Premiere as well)? NTSC DV and non square pixels have been the exceptions for close to a decade yet they still overwhelmingly populate the default choices when creating new comps or sequences.
I bet there are a lot of people who say, "Hey, where's the 4K presets?" Or other things.
Yup, no doubt AE has a lot of them, but the minute they'd get rid of the older ones some user would hit the ceiling.

You could try modifying the "Adobe After Effects xx.x Prefs-indep-composition.txt" file, stored alongside your preferences -- but I haven't tried it myself and you might break things! Make a backup copy in case you break something, and be prepared to reset preferences or reinstall.
