CC 2018: Roto Brush is munching my RAM!
on Jan 16, 2018 at 3:03:36 am

Hey folks! I've used Roto Brush before primarily on pretty short clips. This one I'm currently doing is a 15 second long one. Still pretty short I thought. While trying to freeze out this 15 second segment, it takes up all 32GB of my computer's RAM in the process. As a result, the last three seconds or so fails out. I'm not sure what to do. Should I try to duplicate the layer and line up the layers? That doesn't feel like the "right" way to fix this issue.

The file is DNxHD, I'm on a PC with 32GBs of RAM on the most recent version of After Effects.

Thanks!

This is the one thing that Apple (Motion and FCPX) actually does better than AE/Premiere. In Motion & FCPX, RAM is basically only used to do the math, but everything else (rendered frames, effects etc.) is stored directly on your SSD directly after the calculations are done. I apologize for not providing a solution, but I, unfortunately, don't have one...
