Super quick question on mask paths: copying only a selection of points...

Dear Cows, got bit rusty with masking. Can somebody be so kind and either point me to a thread / tutorial with same topic or maybe answer the following with one simple sentence?

How can I copy and paste just a number of selected points in a mask path, leaving the rest of my points untouched when pasting them elsewhere on another key point in timeline?
I have managed that in the past, but could not find any tutorial for this specific think.
Anybody?
(Much thanks in advance!)

Caspar

I'm pretty sure that there are scripts that might be able to do that, but I can't use them -- not allowed!

But there's the old- school way!
  • Create your mask and then make a mask keyframe.
  • Move the timeline cursor where you want it.
  • Highlight the existing mask keyframe, copy & paste -- the new mask keyframe goes where the timeline cursor's located.
  • Delete the mask vertices you don't want.

Now, this results in a mask that animates. If you just want to have the mask change instantly, highlight both keyframes, right-click and change them to Hold keyframes.

Thanks Dave,

So nice to see you are still around here!

Maybe it was only possible in older versions, but I clearly remember a way to paste only a selection of points, something with a typical modifier like option +command +V.
I have a very complicated mask of which I want to safe a large number of masking path in the new keyframe, but still copying a lot from the previous keyframe...

Hey, I've been around this forum since 2001.

You'd think that if there was a better way than mine, someone would have mentioned it.

So you need to either A) get busy or B) be patient.
