How to animate subtraction of shape from another in a riggable way?
on Dec 10, 2017 at 8:18:04 am

Hi there,

I'm trying to do up a cartoon face rig where I subtract a rectangle from the top of the eyes to give the impression of eyelids. I want to rig it with Joysticks & Sliders:

I can achieve it by using masks but I'd like to know if I could do it with shapes, which would give better realtime control with Joysticks & Sliders as shapes have Positions controls while mask paths do not.

So basically, can I subtract 1 Shape from another?

Joysticks?

Now, you ARE aware that there is nothing real-time about After Effects, are you not?

Which negates using a joystick.....

Hi Dave,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Forgive me, I should have been clearer. Joysticks & Sliders is a plugin for AE:
