What is the Best Way To Animate a Car on a race track ? Bezier Keyframes or some other better method ?
on Dec 9, 2017 at 8:30:23 pm

Hi Everyone,

I have been tring to animate the position of the car - which is a group null - created with Element 3d.

But, creating the 3D path with bezier key frames is very time consuming.

is there a better way to move the car along the race track - ?

Desperately seracing for an answer for a loong time ☺

Thanks in advance,

Tolga

p.s. here below I attach the pic of the 3d model of the race track

1. Add a solid layer
2. Toggle its visibility off
3. Draw a path with the pen tool that will be your motion path for the movement (the runway)
4. Copy the mask path property (important: highlight the mask path, not just the mask)
5. Paste to whatever position property you want and the path vertices will convert to position keyframes lasting 2 seconds that rove across time. Stretch to fit by dragging the last keyframe.

Thank you Roei,

But when I copy the mask path to the position of the 3d null, only x and y coordinates are copied, since the mask is 2d ...

How can I copy and paste a 3d path ?

Thank you.

you paste the keyframes to a 3d null, then you parent the null to another 3d null and you rotate the parent -90 degrees on the X rotation. then you delete the parent. now you have a runway on the floor plane.

Thank you Roei,

Sorry to disturb you again, but I tried what you recommended,..
I have created a 3D Solid (transparent).
Then I created the path with the pen tool onto this 3d transparent opacity 3d solid
Then I copeid and pasted the Mask Path to the E3D Group Null
And below is my result.
The path pf the E3D Null is correct except for the width -size of the track is too small.
How can I expand the size of the copid mask path ?

1st pic : Mask of the track - done by pen tool

2 pic: Copeid path to E3D Null. But the overall track's width is too narrow

can you share the project?

you create the path on a 2d solid.
paste the path to a position of a 2d null
set the 2d null to 3d null
link the 3d null to another 3d null
rotate the parent null -90 degrees on X

if you need to scale the path then scale it using the parent null.

I see the problem. this is complicated and to add to that your track is also not flat so even if you do rotate the path in 3d, you have to adjust the height of certain vertices manually. the method is the same I showed you and you do need to scale it up, set your car coordinates in element to the default so it will be centered, then create the null, parent that null to the moving null.

I got this far:

you should probably do this whole thing in a real 3d software.
