Constant stroke width with Rubberhose?

Hi,

I need to do some character animation where stroked shapes scale (controlled by a null) and maintain a uniform stroke width despite scale increase/decrease. (Dan Ebberts figured out the expression)

I was hoping to use Rubberhose for the character. Would I be able to get the strokes on limbs in Rubberhose to look like they are maintaining a uniform stroke? Is there any reason why whatever ends up working for the shape layer stroke widths wouldn't work in RH layers?
I'm not at work right now and there's no RH demo so I can't test it out.

s = transform.scale[0];
if (hasParent) s *= parent.transform.scale[0]/100;
scaleFactor = 100/s;
value*scaleFactor;

Rubber hose creates expressions so they may override any expressions that you have already applied.

Another idea could be to remove the stroke and instead to add a stroke after Rubberhose has been applied so that it doesn't distort, try adding the Cartoon effect. Remove the Fill properties but adjust the Edge properties to add a new edge to your shapes.

Hi Angie,

I set Cartoon to "edges" and it seems to have filled the entire hose. Could you go into more detail about the specific settings? Do I need to precomp this first?

Thanks!

Here’s a detailed tutorial that covers all the settings of the Cartoon effect. It’s hard to know whether or not you need to preconpose as I can’t see your comp. please reveal all modified properties and then upload a screenshot so I can see it. Thanks.

cheers,

Angie
