After Effects Stabilize Motion - Greyed Out

Firstly I want to apologize if this is a common problem.

I'm working in Adobe Suite 5.5 with .mov clips I shot for a BTS video.
The particular clip I'm working with is 1920x1080 and 23.976 fps.
When I bring it into AE to stabilize it, Stabilize Motion is greyed out, Motion Source says "none".

I've done this before in previous projects, and it was always fine. Can anyone help me get to stabilizing?

Thanks so much.

[Lorelei Rubik] "Can anyone help me get to stabilizing?"

Okey-dokey! In the timeline, double-click on the layer to view it in the layer window. See what happens.

Hey Dave, thanks for the reply. After double clicking, Stabilize Motion becomes available, but it wants to stabilize the entire clip of footage, not just the part of it that I've put into my Premiere timeline. (Which is troublesome because the whole clip won't provide a smooth motion and crops a lot).
