Query an area within a comp
on Jul 7, 2017 at 6:01:10 pm

Hello all!

Not sure if this should be in the general After Effects support, Expressions or Techniques. Anyways...

Trying to query an area within a comp and to get the color data(like the RGB or # value)

Currently, I'm trying to use a solid colors within a comp, then depending on the captured color, it will create a value i can plug in to something else. Like a time re-map value.

Theoretical example: On a Time Remap attribute
x=0;
C=Get RGB value from comp window;
if(C== "255,0,0")
{
x=.1;
}
[x]

Basically, I have an image sequence of just solid colors that change very quickly. I am trying to capture each color and convert it to a value which will then plug in to a layer with a Time Remap attribute. Sort of like "triggering" a specific time/frame from the color value.

Hoping this all makes at least some sense.

Thank you to all for any help.

Use sampleImage()

Here are a few examples from the incomparable Dan Ebberts:
