Render a list of specific comp frames in After Effects
on May 30, 2017 at 3:40:40 pm

Hello!
Forgive me if I missed something obvious, but is there a way to render a queue of specific frames from one After Effects comp?.. e.g. frame 00010, 00057, 00146, 00159.. etc
I've got a Cinema4D / Skybox VR scene rendered as an image sequence, when I checked all the frames I can see some of the 3D textures glitch randomly throughout the animation, I've fixed the glitch in C4D, but rather than render the whole thing out again (30+ hours) I thought best to just re-render the frames with the glitch.. but there are 60+ frames, each taking 2 minutes to render.. want to avoid previewing each frame and saving separately for obvious reasons.. so wondered if there was a way to set up a queue?
Thanks guys!
Lee

i wish you could...without having multiple copies of the same composition i don't think it can be done to set it and forget it. ..Oh unless you just re rendered the whole comp with your old png sequence cut up into pieces so that only whats new will be re rendered

Here are three separate options:

1) Go to each of the bad frames on the timeline, then press Ctrl+Alt+S (PC) or Cmd+Alt+S (Mac) to add that frame to the render queue as a still.

2) Mark the bad frames on the timeline with comp markers and use this script:
http://aescripts.com/render-frame-at-markers/

3) Add the comp to the render queue, click its Render Settings, set a custom start and end to match your next bad frame number, and make sure to select an image output module. Duplicate this and adjust the custom start and end frames for each bad frame in your list.

Fantastic, thanks Walter.
Wow, spoilt for choice here, I'm going to try them all and see which I prefer for future use, very very helpful, thank you!

i'm unclear if you had rendered from ae as an image sequence, but if you did, i think you could just delete the bad frames from the sequence, then add the updated comp to the render queue, click 'best settings' or the current render settings and click the option to 'skip existing frames'.

ae should then only render the bad frames that you deleted from the sequence.

Kevin's suggestion is the best option yet.
