How to track a rotating boat! in mocha ae...
on May 9, 2017 at 6:12:52 pm

Hi Guys,

I was wondering what the best way to track a boat that is doing a turn in the water.

Below shows the beginning, middle and end of the shot:

So far I've managed to get quite a good track using mocha for AE:

..but I can't figure out how to export the grid plane from mocha as a 3d plane in after effects.

The placeholder text you see above is achieved by using corner pin data on a cc power pin effect in ae with exapansion turned on but the result is quite jumpy.

Ideally I'd be able to convert the mocha grid into a 3d plane in ae and then attach other objects to that plane in 3d. This way I'm not limited to the plane that was tracked in mocha or need to suffer from the instability of an extended corner pin effect.

Alternatively if there is just a better way to track this kind of shot I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks for any advice on this.
