Advice on license plate retouch

Hi,

I was hoping to get some feedback on how you would approach removing the type from the license plate in this sequence. Not sure the best way to go with the various light effects/flares going on here. The shot is only about 2 seconds but there is a lot going on around the plate.

thanks.

I have to tell you, I took a good 30 seconds on each grab trying to make out discernable license plate characters. I couldn't. If you ask me, I don't think you need to do a thing, particularly for a 2-second shot.

Looks like it would have been better for me to include a link to the clip itself. Please see below:

....and after nine consecutive viewings, I'm still at a loss to make out a license plate.

Heck, I'm not even sure of the kind of car. I think it's a Thunderbird.

I'm with Dave and Richard. On the clips, between the lights and the short duration, I can't make out anything. I can sort of make out the plate on the stills, but I have to really make an effort and even then I'm not 100% sure of any letters. But I can tell it's a Mini Cooper, so that's one mystery solved.

More fun, too.

I get it. Some clients are absolute about legal issues.

Does this work?

11344_licenseplatefix.mp4.zip

If so, all I did was track the car and I used that to create a moving matte for a blurred version of the license plate. The matte was basically a highly feather ellipse--there is so much going on and so much feathering that you can't really tell the flares are getting softened in those areas.

Best regards,

Kevin Camin

THANK YOU KEVIN!

Yes, you are the first person to actually acknowledge that it is a client thing, and you can see it more clearly on the pro res version of the file. Your solution is perfect, thanks. There are other more prominent shots of the license plate but this one had so much more going on around it.
